Two hours, one guide, and the whole centre of a strange city in your head by lunch. It is the shape most Segway tours take, and these three do it better than the rest.
Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia
The cheapest city rides on the site and the most of them. Barcelona runs the seafront and the Gothic quarter, Madrid is park and palace, Valencia is riverbed park the whole way.
Wide paths, long sightlines
Nashville, Chicago, San Diego and Washington built the kind of waterfront path a Segway was designed for. Groups are small, helmets are compulsory and the guide keeps a radio in your ear.
Two banks and a castle hill
Budapest, Prague and Krakow put the sights on both sides of a river and a hill in the middle. The machine takes the climb without complaint, which is the whole argument for it.
The lights come on and the Segway ride gets quieter.
Evening departures trade the crowds for empty squares and lit facades. Smaller groups, cooler air, and in the hot cities it is the only comfortable hour to be out on the machine at all.

Cobbles are the one surface that argues back.
Medieval lanes are exactly what you came to see and exactly what the machine finds hardest. The rides below either pick the smooth line through them or hold the speed low enough that it stops mattering. Krakow, Prague, Seville and Valencia all do it well.

Seafront, old town or park loop: the three city rides worth comparing.
Most cities offer all three and price them differently. The seafront run is the easy one, the old town is the interesting one, and the park loop is the one to book when somebody in the group has never ridden.

Can you ride one? Almost certainly. Here is what the guide checks first.
Nearly every tour opens with a training lap in a quiet square, ten minutes or so, and nobody leaves it until the guide is happy. Expect a minimum age somewhere between twelve and sixteen depending on the city, a weight range at both ends, closed shoes and a helmet that stays on. If any of that worries you, a taster ride is the cheap way to find out.
Three rides that only make sense on a Segway.
A walking tour cannot reach them and a coach cannot stop in them. These are the routes the machine was built for.
The base of Uluru
Ten kilometres of track around the rock on fat off-road tyres, starting early enough that the flies and the heat are still somebody else’s problem. Walking the same loop takes most of a day and the shuttle stops nowhere useful in between. This is the one route where the machine does something boots genuinely cannot.
